The horrors of MSG

MSG

By now I’m sure most people have heard of MSG or Monosodium Glutamate, and that it’s not very good for us. We’ve all seen those signs up at Chinese restaurants saying ‘No MSG’. But what exactly is MSG? And just how bad is it for us?
MSG is a food additive that enhances flavors in food. It virtually has no flavor of its own, but neurologically causes people to experience a more intense flavor from the foods that they eat containing it. What it does is it excites the nerves to the point of death! That’s why foods containing MSG tend to be so addictive; it is very neurologically stimulating, thus creating a sort of ‘high’. It is an excitotoxin – which means it overstimulates mental activity. Have you ever wondered why some fast foods are so addictive? Or why you can’t just eat one chip? MSG is so prevalent now, and it’s contained in so many processed and packaged foods, as well as in restaurants and fast food joints.
I heard a doctor once say that you can add MSG to dirt and make it taste good! So most companies can get away with selling bland, overly-processed, nutritionally empty foods, and still not only make them taste good, but make them addictive too.
Another scary thing about MSG (and Aspartame for that matter) is that it is fed to rats and mice in lab studies when they need them to get fat. So not only does MSG mess up our nervous system, it makes us fat!
The sad thing is that most companies now know that when people read labels, they may look out for Monosodium Glutamate, so they’ve become very creative with trying to hide it.

Here is a list of food additives that ALWAYS contain MSG :

Monosodium Glutamate, Autolyzed Yeast, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, Hydrolyzed Protein, Hydrolyzed Plant Protein, Plant Protein Extract, Sodium Caseinate, Calcium Caseinate, Yeast Extract, Textured Protein (Including TVP), Glutamic Acid, Hydrolyzed Oat Flour, Corn Oil

Food additives that FREQUENTLY Contain MSG:

Malt Extract, Malt Flavoring, Bouillon, Broth, Stock Flavoring, Natural Flavors/Flavoring, Natural Beef Or Chicken Flavoring, Seasoning, Spices, Maltodextrin and Whey Protein

Make sure to read labels very carefully, since most packaged and processed foods contain MSG. I know most bags of chips contain yeast extract. So just read carefully, we’re already so bombarded by chemicals constantly, so with a little effort we can reduce some of that chemical load.
